IP Protection class

The IP protection type code describes the protection of a casing or enclosure against the invasion of solid foreign bodies, against the contact with dangerous parts and against the intrusion of water. The different types of influences are divided into individual IP classes.

The maximum durability, the resilience, and the eligible application field of products are thus made comparable for the user. In addition to water, dust counts as a foreign object.

Because of powerful convection blower, high dust constants can be reached, which in turn, ensures accurate test results.

Solid particle protection

5 - Dust protected: Ingress of dust is not entirely prevented, but it must not enter in sufficient quantity to interfere with the satisfactory operation of the equipment.

6 - Dust tight: No ingress of dust at a negative pressure of 20 mbar inside the housing.

Liquid ingress protection
IP X1Dripping water (vertically falling drops)
IP X2Dripping water when tilted at 15°
IP X3Spraying water at any angle up to 60°
IP x4Splashing water of all directions
IP X5Jet water
IP X6Powerful jet water
IP X7Temporary immersion
IP X8Durable immersion
IP X9kHigh pressure steam jet cleaning

Protection class tests against the intrusion of water

IP X1dripping water (perpendicular falling drops)
IP X2 dripping water below 15°-angle of casing
IP X3spray water at an angle of up to 60°
IP X4spray water from all directions
IP X5hose water
IP X6intense hose water
IP X7temporary immersion
IP X8enduring immersion
IP X9khigh pressure and steam-jet cleaning

Protection class tests against the intrusion of foreign solids
