Environmentally friendly disposal
We avoid producing waste wherever possible. Our lamps contain only the minimum required amount of environmentally hazardous substances, and we avoid unnecessary packaging and materials. We continue to develop our products to make them as recyclable as possible. When engineering new products, we reduce the amounts of toxic substances or replace them entirely with environmentally friendly substances.
Incandescent lamps and halogen lamps are made of glass and metal and contain no toxic substances. They may simply be disposed of in domestic refuse bins. Discharge lamps contain small amounts of mercury. Therefore they should not be placed in glass recycling containers or domestic refuse bins. All lamps with mercury need to be properly recycled by a specialist.
In the European Union, discharge lamps come under the directive 2002/96/EC, on Waste of Electric and Electronic Equipment (WEEE). In Germany , this directive has been realized in the context of the Elektro- und Elektronik Altgeräte Gesetz (ElektroG).
In the scope of EU-wide redemption and recycling systems, OSRAM guarantees professional waste disposal.
